I was fortunate to hunt with Dirk de Bod early in my African hunting career. Thirty-some years later, I’m not sure how many safaris we’ve done together. All have been excellent, all memorable. In Southern Africa, one can expect comfortable camps, great food, professional staff, and good concessions with lots of game. Safaris Namibia will not disappoint, but the Dirk de Bod touch is unique and exceptional.
Among the many PHs I’ve hunted with, few compare with Dirk. He loves his country and its animals, takes good care of both. He has deep knowledge of the land, the people, and the flora and fauna. Dirk is one of the best judges of trophy quality I have hunted with, uncanny ability to orchestrate a stalk, and when it’s time to shoot, he remains cool, calm, and reassuring. He is the consummate host and, while your safari will almost certainly be successful, Dirk makes it fun.
If you’re an experienced African hand, you will still learn from Dirk. I’m still learning from him. If it’s early in your African career, you could be in no better hands. In 2003, when daughter Brittany went on her first safari, I took her to Dirk. I blame him for the African obsession she still has. Years later, her now-husband Brad Jannenga made his first safari with Dirk. And when my buddy John Stucker was finally ready to take the plunge and go on his first safari, I sent him to Dirk. Like me, I have no idea how many times they have returned. Like me, we all consider the de Bod clan part of our family, looking forward to many more family reunions.
